In SOÑO DE LIBERDADE, journalist Rocío Cid, whom we know as Rosalía Carcedo’s biographer in the novel La saga de las curanderas, tells us the story of a hypothetical woman, born in rural Galicia, Sabela Couto Roriz (1949). The novel is a journey through her life, from her birth in the era of ration cards to the arrival of democracy in her youth. It narrates the battle the protagonist had to fight to break out of the cycle of submission in which her mother and grandmother lived; a battle she won through study and rebellion, which led her to be able to work outside the home, marry the person she loved and become independent.
This life journey serves to offer an overview of the agricultural and livestock work that Sabela was forced to participate in as a child and teenager, of paternal authority, the precariousness of the life of a rural girl in the city, social class differences, the role of women, and the difficulties of experiencing first love, always under the yoke of her father’s gaze and the judgement of others.
SOÑO DE LIBERDADE is, in short, the story of a free woman ahead of her time, a woman who worked to overcome the limitations and difficulties of her upbringing and who dreamed of a better life.

Brief biography of the author of SOÑO DE LIBERTADE book:
Marisa Castro Cerdeda was born into a farming family in Segade del Barrio da Ponte (Lugo) in 1955. She studied Biological Sciences at the University of Santiago de Compostela, where she obtained her PhD under the supervision of her colleague, the illustrious Galician mycologist Luis Freire (1914-1997).
She was a lecturer and researcher at the University of Vigo for 31 years, where she co-founded the start-up MycoGalicia Plantae, which focuses on sustainable forestry and mycobotanical dissemination.
She is the founder of the ‘Grupo Micológico Galego Luis Freire’ (Luis Freire Galician Mycological Group) and the scientific journal Mykes, published in the Galician language.
She is a mycologist with a PhD in biological sciences with a thesis related to mushrooms, and for more than 30 years she was a professor at the University of Vigo, where she taught botany and supervised almost a dozen doctoral theses. She is a founding partner of the company MycoGalicia Plantae, with members of her research team.
Her first profession is teaching, and her second, without a doubt, is scientific dissemination.
Marisa is an ecologist, nature lover and defender of women’s freedom, especially in the figure of rural Galician women.
